The Cathedral was started under Gothic influence in 1431 and finished in the Renaissance in 1502, so that it summarizes features of both styles.

Outside it is grand. it stands out. Inside it is wide and airy, and your eyes can rove freely in the large nave without columns, covered with a barrel vault.

Among the many master-pieces preserved in the Cathedral. there is the altar-piece representing the Trasfiguration of Christ, painted in 1555 by Paolo Veronese. It was ordered by the same Francesco Pisani who called Palladio in order to have a Villa built right outside the walls.

Remarkable are also the great altar-pieces by Buonconsiglio representing one a Madonna and the other St. Catherine, and the lively representation of the Battle of Lepanto ascribed to Aliense.

On both sides of the portal are two frescoes representing David and Judith. They have been found in the '30s during the restoration of the Cathedral. Many are the elements in them which suggest the hypothesis of the work of Giorgione's illustrious hand.

St.Francis Church

It seems that a Francican community estabilished in Montagnana around 1200. They had their seat in the Romanesque Church of St.Francis, which was probably built in 1350. Now it hosts a St.Clare nunnery.
